TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's Question is:

-Q: After graduation is it relatively easy to find living accommodations with a large dog?  Is Prague very dog friendly with parks, restaurants and cafes allowing dogs inside?

-A: In most cases yes, dogs are definitely not an issue and Prague is a very dog-friendly city. You will often see dogs on the metro and trams, and also in restaurants and even cinemas.

Hope it helps!

TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's Question is:

-Q:  If i were to pay for the course i would also need a round trip ticket home?

-A: This is a frequently asked question and one which doesn't have a black and white answer. Yes, everyone should technically be able to show proof of onward journey when entering the Czech Republic on any of its borders. However, in reality the majority of our Clients arrive on one way tickets and never experience any hassles at the border whatsoever. Your travel agent back home may suggest a return ticket and to be on the safe side this is what we recommend, but in our 10+ years in business we have never heard of anyone being refused entry because they were holding a single ticket only.

Hope it helps!

TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's Question is:

-Q: Hello Neville.

Do I need to get a student visa in order to attend the course? Also,  do I definitely need a round trip ticket in order to enter the Czech Republic?

Thank you.

Tae

-A: Hi Tae. You don't need a special visa for the course. Upon arrival to Prague (if you are from the USA) you will be given a free 90- day Tourist Visa and this is good for the duration of the course and for the period when you begin teaching and when your work visa is being processed. We do recommend a round trip but it isn't essential.

Hope it helps!

TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's Question is:

-Q: I am going to apply to the program before Monday so I can qualify for the discount you guys are running this week. I have read so many good things about your program but I was wondering if you had more past student feedback at all? Jessie.

-A: Hi Jessie. Thank you for your email! Well, to begin with we are almost top of the pile on tefl-reviews.com: http://tefl-reviews.com/ITTP-Prague-TEFL-Prague.html
If you would also like past Graduate feedback then pls do feel free to let me know and I will place you in touch with some recent and past Graduates of the program. Thank you.

TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's Question is:

-Q: Is there an age limit in some countries, for TEFL instructors?  I am turning 63 this year, am in good health, and have teaching experience and BA degree.

-A: There is no age limit per se but of course you need to be able to physically and mentally function as a teacher in order to carry out the job. There is definitely a growing trend of maturer students taking the course and this might be because the baby boomers of this generation are now finding themselves approaching retirement age or having retired, and with still a thirst for travel and wanting to make a difference in the lives of other people abroad or at home. Generally speaking maturer teachers tend to gain more respect due to their life experiences and schools favor maturer students on the one hand because they are less likely to suddenly leave the school because they have decided on a whim to travel to another country. However, I think that schools are also aware that it can sometimes be more demanding with maturer students when it comes to needing them to take on board school rules and regulations as we do find that maturer students tend to like to sit more in their ways than younger Clients. I don't think the negatives and positives though are too extreme and by taking the course you should expect the same job opportunities as say someone taking the course in their twenties or thirties.

Hope it helps!

TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's Question was asked this week by Daphne from Bellevue, Washington State.
Her question concerns logistics regarding the ITTP Prague Online/Onsite course (http://tefl-tesol-online.com/onsite/prague-online-onsite.html)

-Q: My plan would be to complete the online course in the US, then take the practice in a school in Prague and find a job there.  Can the work permit be processed during the class practice? or do I have to get an offer first?

-A: You can arrange the work permit from home but it is advisable to arrange it once on the ground as the job offers are much better when found locally than when applied for from abroad.

Hope it helps!

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q:  Greetings!
I am from Russia and I would like to do these TEFL courses. The question is what visa do i need to do that? Another TEFL provider told me that I can use my tourist visa, but this seems quite strange since Russian tourists are given 5-12-day visa only and then we have to leave the country.
Alex

-A: Yes, with ITTP you can get a 4 week tourist visa to take the course and then simply transfer over to a work visa afterwards.
We have lots of experience working with Russian Clients (although the majority of our Clients do come from the USA).

I can also confirm for you that we do have some places left available for the Winter courses, which coincides with the largest hiring peak of the new semester and for your convenience our application form can be found here:

ITTP TEFL Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q:  I see that you are Business Partners with Lufthansa Airlines. Does this mean I can get a free upgrade on my flight over? Cynthia.

-A: Thank you for your email Cynthia. Yes, since the beginning of the year, ITTP has become proud Business Partner with Lufthansa Airlines and you may view this statement with the official Lufthansa Airlines logo on the ITTP TEFL Prague website: http://tefl-prague.com/ITTP-Prague-TEFL-Reviews.htm

What this means is that Lufthansa have agreed to be associated with the ITTP brand name and for us that is a truly powerful endorsement. It unfortunautely doesn't mean that our Clients receive any special perks but you are welcome to sign up for their Frequent Miles Program and the fact that we also endorse Lufthansa Airlines is based on lots of experience of flying the Atlantic route with this airline and in comparison we can say with hand on heart that they offer the best value for money by far than other carriers plying the same route.

My only negative experience with Lufthansa didn't involve the airline at all but instead was the experience of transferring through Frankfurt International Airport. If you can, try and book your transfer through Munich International Airport instead for a much pleasurable experience.

More info about the Lufthansa Airlines experience and details of some of our other important Corporate Partners, can be viewed also in the NEWS section of this blog:

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q:  When is it possible to move into school accommodation?

-A: ITTP accommodation is always available from the Sunday before classes begin. The reason for this is because we require a full day from the previous TEFL students moving out to prepare the apartment for the new set of students moving in. At certain times of the year, mainly after holidays, it is possible to arrange to move in earlier so please feel free to let us know when you have your course booked and we will confirm for you the moving in date.

Thank you and have a lovely day!

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q:  I\'m teaching ESL now and am looking into the Fast Track online course. I\'m also comparing with other courses on line. How does your certification compare to other certifications from other companies.? thank you

-A: I think the thing which makes our online certificates carry more weight is that we also provide onsite certification.
The benefit of this is that the online school curriculum has evolved over the years at the same rate as our monthly onsite intensive course, and that employers do favor our online graduates over other schools because they see that the certificate comes from an in house TEFL/TESOL course provider.

I can also confirm that we are running a Special course discount this week to coincide with our 10th anniversary and for your convenience our application form can be found here:

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q: I wish to apply before Oct. 12 to ensure the discount rate. I would like to put down a deposit to save a spot for the May 2013 course. If I can\'t make it in May will you hold the deposit for another class that year? Lets say I can\'t make May but can make it for June, will that deposit transfer for another class?
-A: Yes, we realize that the plans of our Clients are often extremely flexible and our school policy reflects this trend. ITTP is one of the only schools which doesn't charge its Clients for course transfers. What we do require though is that Clients please notify us a max of 2 weeks before their course date is set to start if they do need to change courses, so that we can then transfer their course place without charge and without hassle or complications at all.

Hope it helps!

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q: Neville,
Phil Stowers here.
I have been working on a master's degree in mental health counseling for the last three years. I will soon complete it and I have a colleague who wants to earn the TEFL certificate and work in Kiev, Ukraine.

Do you have a branch of the school in Kiev? If there isn't one, I will encourage him to fly to Prague and study at ITTPrague. He is quite motivated to study for the certificate and then live in Kiev. I know he can study in Prague and then move to Kiev and the credential will transfer to that country as the certificate is an internationally recognized one. It would just be a little more convenient if there is a branch of ITTP in that country.

Thanks for your time.

I remember the experience with great fondness.

Phil Stowers

-A: Thank you for your email Phil.

We don't run courses in Kiev so yes, if your friend requires Onsite training then it would need to be Prague first.
Our application form can be found here:
http://tefl-prague.com/ITTP-Prague-TEFL-Application-form.htm

Our Combined courses are also proving more and more popular and this might also be an attractive option for your friend:
http://tefl-tesol-online.com/onsite/prague-online-onsite.html
Please feel free to have your friend contact us directly so we can discuss what would be the best option for him.
Thank you Phil.

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q: Would I be free to structure my practicum to reflect my interest in the teaching of adults?  Or is it mandatory at ITTP that my practicum include the teaching of kids?

-A: Yes, you would be free to do that as we provide teaching Adults and Teaching children classes. The main focus is actually on teaching Adults and while of course there are set grammar and technique standards, Trainees of the course are encouraged to find their own teaching 'groove'. As part of the course, and I think we are the only TEFL/TESOL provider in Prague to do this, we also get you teaching Business English classes, for example at UniCredit Bank.

Hope it helps!

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q: Is it possible to apply for and obtain a teaching position in Prague from the US or is it easier to acquire a position while in Prague? Do most positions require an in person interview?

-A: It is the norm for schools to want to interview you in person when you are in Prague and schools rarely (if ever) employ from overseas. The reasons for this are:

1). It takes time and resources to conduct interviews and set up teaching contracts and if employing from overseas then there is always the possibility that the applicant won't follow through with the teaching contract position and will leave the school high and dry.

2). Schools want to see you in person, they want to see signs that you are committed to being in Prague for the immediate future at least, and that first commitment step is actually being in Prague.

3). Schools will usually want to see you conduct a short demo class before offering you work, and this means needing to be available to come in to the school and teach.

Hope it helps!

Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...
-Q: Hi Neville,

I just have one more quick question that came up as we're filling out our applications.

I thought I read somewhere that it was possible, for a small fee, to change the month you wish to do the program, up to a certain amount of time before the program begins and if space in the program allows. Is this true, or did I dream that?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate all the help you've given me!

Best,
Rachel

-A: Hello Rachel.

Thank you for your reply.

We don't charge any fee if you want to change course dates. All that we ask is that you please provide us with at least 4 week's notice if wanting to change and we will then transfer you free of charge. It wasn't a dream :-)

Looking forward to receiving your applications.

Speak soon.

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...

-Q: Hi, I am very interested in doing your onsite course, in January or February 2013. I am a vegetarian, will my choices of meals be limited in winter?

-A: It did used to be the case that the Vegetarian section of menus consisted exclusively of either a salad option or a serving of fried cheese. Years of Communist rule had given way to a sort of nonchalance when it came to people's general attitudes towards food; a plate of food was considered meat and dumplings or potatoes, served up with a heavy sauce and perhaps a sad and withered looking piece of salad leaf as garnish.

A shame really as Thomas Masaryk (the founder and first President of Czechoslovakia) was a vegetarian and started a vegetarian movement in the country back then. Masaryk was in office between 14th November 1918 – 14th December 1935.

Today there has been a healthy and steady resurgence of vegetarian options available and as time has unfolded so have the prices dropped. Still though, if you step into a traditional Czech restaurant then the vegetarian menu will remain quite limited, but there are so many health food shops dotted around the city now that vegetarians and vegans have a much easier time now, at any time of the year.

Hope it helps!

ITTP Prague: Friday's Question

This Friday's question is...
-Q: Could I expect to teach in an adult work education program if I completed the TEFL in Prague.

-A: Yes, the vast majority of teaching contracts in Prague are for teaching adults. There are also options for teaching children if you wish though, and we do provide this training as part of the course. However, teaching adults is the norm and is usually better paid.

Hope it helps!
