ITTP Prague: March Guest Writer - Prague Removals

Lots of people who stay around for a while in Prague and who become expats proper find that they originally came with 1 or 2 bags, only to find a few years down the line that they have accumulated books, furniture, etc. There's wisdom in the saying that the things you own end up owning you. When you then need to move to another apartment, or if you simply want to store or transport your stuff home, then it can be extremely demanding finding a removals company who will take care of this for you both stress-free and affordably (and with English language skills). Moving is one of the most stressful times of a person's life.

At ITTP whenever we require moving services or whenever we are asked for a removals company recommendation we always always always recommend AGA Moving and Transport. This month we sat down with Armand, the owner of AGA, and asked him for some answers to general moving FAQs. Armand very kindly agreed and we would like to thank him for taking time out of his busy schedule to do so.

-Q: Firstly, what are the services which you offer?
-A: We offer a variety of services ranging from transporting IKEA furniture from the store, to complete house removals. We offer removals services within Prague/Czech Republic, and we also offer international removals services. As an example, we recently had a client from Prague who needed her belongings moved back to Barcelona because she was relocating back home.

-Q: What is typically your client base?
-A: Our main client base are English-speaking expats. We also cater of course for international and local Czech-speaking clients.

-Q: What are your moving tips?
-A: For international moves we recommend that you keep the following supplies and accessories on hand:
- Boxes, all sizes
- Bubble wrap or other cushioning material
- Marking pens
- Tape measure
- Furniture pads or old blankets
- Packing tape and scissors
- Money and credit cards
- Label each box with the room in the new home to which it should be delivered.
- Number the boxes and keep a list of what is in each box.
- Clearly mark fragile items.
- Pack a bag of personal items you’ll need during the move (change of clothes, toiletries, medicine, maps, food, and drinks). Keep it in an easy-to-find place when you pack.
- Keep a medical kit accessible.
- If you have children, pack a bag of games and activities for the trip.

For local moves and the short distances involved there isn't really any need to invest so much time and money in moving supplies but we do recommend clearly marking any fragile items. For your own convenience we also recommend clearly marking your boxes so you can unpack with ease at your final destination.

-Q: What are your rates?
-A: We have a variety of prices, depending on how many moving staff you want and also the size of vehicle requested.

The most basic service which we offer is with our Mercedes Benz Viano vehicle and with 1 member of staff this moving service costs just 500 CZK per hour. With 2 members of staff the price would increase to 700 CZK. This service would apply to either IKEA runs or very small moves, such as a teacher moving their belongings across town (if they have too many things to make the public transport or taxi an unrealistic option).

Our medium range service is with our Iveco Daily vehicle and the prices per hour are 600/800/1,000 CZK for 1, 2, or 3 members of moving staff. There is also an additional option of paying 200 CZK per hour for each further additional member of moving staff if required.

We also offer the option for large and very large moves and for this service we use our Iveco Eurocargo vehicle. Regarding this service there is only the option for 2 or more members of moving staff and prices per hour are 900 CZK for 2 workers, 1,100 CZK for 3 and +200 CZK per hour for each further additional member of moving staff if required.

-Q: If you are on a tight budget can you request 1 member of moving staff and chip in yourself with the work to save costs?
-A: Absolutely. Anyone is more than welcome to help with the moving if they wish. This is entirely the decision of the client. If they want to help then they can and if they don't want to help then they of course don't have to. We also offer the option of move sharing so if you only have a small load we can combine your move with other moves to reduce the cost for you and sometimes it is also possible to travel with your items to your final destination.

-Q: Do you offer any other services?
-A: Yes, we also offer short term and long term storage services in modern storage facilities in cooperation with City Self Storage. We also provide the service of constructing and deconstructing IKEA furniture when requested and when part of a client's move.

-Q: What's the best way to contact AGA?

-A: If there is a need for an urgent job then clients should please call us: (+420) 604 219 211. For all other enquiries please feel free to email me directly: guri_armand [at] yahoo.com. We also run a website: www.agamoving.cz.
