ITTP Prague: Weekly Photo

This week's photo is the Zizkov Tower (also known as the 'Space Tower').

This is at once a true eyesore; a blot on the otherwise almost picture perfect golden spired city.
Also though, the tower provides an interesting alternative architectural viewpoint and without the disturbing or plain ugly it isn't as easy to appreciate the inspiring or pure beauty.

Ironically, when it was being built locals were worried that the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the tower posed a health risk to people in the vicinity (later found out not to be true). The irony being that now locals hold mobile (cell) phones up to their heads throughout the day, which also emit amounts of electromagnetic radiation.

You can head up the tower where there is an observation deck and restaurant.
The last time I went up there I noticed there was still a two tier payment system, with non-locals being charged more. This really surprised me because the two tier pricing just isn't that common anymore. My advice if you do want to head up the tower is to try and go with a local.

Btw, the black babies crawling up and down the tower are the creation of local artist David Cerny.

Hezky den!/Lovely day!

Neville :-)
