ITTP Prague: Monday's TEFL Prague Quick Tip

This Monday's TEFL Prague tip is...

Academic titles are very important here. Czechs introduce themselves on the phone or in formal conversation firstly with their title and then their name. Their titles are also quoted on their post boxes. As an example: Ing. Honza Novak (the 'Ing' is the education title and refers to a technical-related degree). If you are making an important phone call, or if you are writing an email or letter - if you have a university degree - then you might want to add for example BA or BSc to the front of your name. If you haven't gained a university degree then simply add your middle name instead because Czechs tend not to have middle names and look on more than 2 names as being quite posh. So in my example, having been to university but in my heady youth not having completed my degree, as a teacher I would introduce myself in formal meetings with my full name (Neville David Thomas).

Hope it helps!

Hezky den!/Lovely day!

Neville :-)
