One of the mistakes which some newbie teachers make is that they tend to be so concerned with getting their teaching schedule filled up that they tend to initially accept whatever hours in whichever locations they can get. Within a few weeks they soon realize that there is plenty of work available and they now need to work new classes around the less flexible classes which they earlier committed to.

My advice is to create a week's schedule - vertical columns for Mon to Fri and horizontal columns for hours in the day. This way when you are offered teaching hours you can see where the class is located in relation to other classes in your schedule. Also, as a new teacher you might be obliged to accept a few 'unpopular' classes but don't sell yourself out and accept whatever you can get because pretty soon you are going to be turning work down because your schedule is full.
