ITTP TEFL Prague: Friday Questions

This Friday's question is...

-Q: Hi, once I have a job somewhere do I make enough to cover the costs of living?

-A: Yes, you will find that no matter where you are teaching that you will always make enough to cover the cost of living. In Prague for example where a supermarket cashier earns on average 70 CZK per 60 minutes, teachers of English tend to earn from 200 CZK upwards for 45 minutes teaching (1 teaching hour is calculated as 45 minutes). Even in a place like Quito, where your hourly wage teaching might just scrape the couple of US$ mark, you will find that local prices are extremely affordable and that you can lead a relatively comfortable lifestyle. I think that as a teacher of English you will find it difficult for example to buy and run a car but for day to day living - such as groceries, going out, trips, housing, you will find that you are on par with either the average or slightly higher than average standard of living for the local populace for pretty much most teaching English destinations.

Hope it helps!

Hezky den!/Lovely day!
